Editorial policy

Every page is credited to the Xin chào Pleiku editors. We do not use made-up author names, and we do not write what we have no source for.

Which sources come first

  1. Legal texts and government pages for procedures, fees, office addresses, utility tariffs and anything compulsory. Ward and commune names follow the current legal text; old names go in brackets where you may need to recognise them.
  2. Pages and price lists published by the operator (coach company, airline, attraction, restaurant) for timetables, fares and prices. Each figure shows the date it was checked. If only a third source exists, we say where to check and give no number. Restaurants in Pleiku rarely publish a price list; then the price of a portion is what visitors wrote in recent reviews, marked "per reviews" with the month. It is a guide, not the restaurant's menu.
  3. News reports to find leads, then the original source. A news report alone does not stand behind a figure about a procedure.
  4. Google Maps and reviews only to spot what reviews keep repeating: when it is busy, how long the wait is, which dish gets praised. A comment goes on a page only when at least three reviews from the last six months say the same thing.

Open encyclopedias can help us get oriented but are never the only source for a number. Social media and video are leads, not sources.

Figures and calculations

Every number, date and condition on a page traces back to a passage in a source we read. When we add or multiply figures that have sources, the calculation is marked as ours.

When two sources disagree

We go with the source that carries more legal weight, or the newer one, and say so on the page if the difference affects what you are about to do.

Dates on a page

"Rechecked" at the top is the last time the page was compared with its sources; "Published" at the bottom is when it first appeared. Prices and hours change, so check with the place if a page looks old.

Independence

Money does not decide what a page says about a place. If a page carries an ad or an affiliate link, it is labelled where it appears and on this page.
