Coffee in Pleiku: where to sit, by mood and ward

Where to drink coffee in Pleiku: rice-field views, leafy rainy-day gardens, a city sunset, live music and an old shop for beans, with hours and prices.

By Rechecked

Pick by weather and hour: Ngày Bình Yên for rice fields, Hani for the city at sunset, The Quao for a quiet seat or a rainy day, Cafe Thu Hà for old-school morning coffee. You are in a leading Vietnamese coffee region, so any of them will serve a good cup.

Pick by the weather and the hour. For a view, go to Ngày Bình Yên (rice fields) or Hani (the whole city at sunset). For a quiet seat or a laptop, go to The Quao. For an old-school morning coffee, go to Cafe Thu Hà. You are in coffee country here: Gia Lai is one of Vietnam’s leading coffee-growing regions, and the long-running cafés in town serve strong, fragrant coffee.

Three quick picks

  • A view and photos: Hani Kafe & Kitchen, open until 10:30 pm, with a view over the city and the sunset.
  • A quiet seat or some work: The Quao, airy and leafy, open from 6:30 am.
  • Morning coffee, Pleiku style: Cafe Thu Hà, more than 50 years in the trade, open from 6:30 am.

How coffee works here

Cafés in Pleiku are not new. Quite a few opened from the 70s on, and the Thăng Long tea room, one of the city’s first coffee houses, once stood opposite where Cafe Thu Hà is today. Habits have shifted since, with a good share of locals moving from phin (the small metal drip filter) to machine-made coffee, so one street can hold both kinds of café. If you simply want a strong, aromatic cup, the cafés on the city’s own tourism page are where to start.

Young locals like quiet cafés for unwinding after class, and many of these places host music nights, small events or workshops. If you are there on a weekend or an evening, ask at the counter whether anything is on.

Weather is the easiest way to choose: on a fine day pick a café with a view over the fields, on a rainy day pick a leafy one. Both are close to the centre, so you can take a Grab (the ride-hailing app) to any of them.

Pleiku ward: the most choice in the centre

Five cafés sit in Pleiku ward, the city centre: Ngày Bình Yên for the fields, Hani for the city at sunset, The Quao for a rainy day, The Wind for a group or kids, and Thu Hà for bagged coffee to take home.

Ngày Bình Yên (“Peaceful Day”) is the one to pick if you want to sit and look at the yard and the rice fields rather than try drinks: the view is calm and every angle works for photos. The drinks are less of a draw. They smell strongly of flavourings and the coffee is quite strong, so order something simple and skip the matcha and the unusual milk teas.

Cafe Thu Hà is the place for a coffee in an old-school shop where the owner knows the regulars, a brand with more than 50 years in the trade. Some customers have been coming for 15 years. You can drink in or take a bag home, since the shop sells Arabica and Robusta beans, ground coffee, paper phin filters and instant coffee; the fifth line of the card below asks for beans. It closes at 9 pm, earlier than the others, so do not plan a late evening here.

With one afternoon and a wish to see Pleiku from above, go to Hani. It has a rooftop terrace, a view over the city, sunsets and plenty of photo corners. It is on the same street as Ngày Bình Yên, Tô Vĩnh Diện, so the two fit into one outing. Come with friends; for a quiet corner alone, The Quao is better.

When it rains and you want to sit among plants and listen to it, The Quao is the place. Drinks that stand out are Trà Sen Vàng (Golden Lotus Tea) with lotus cream, a lightly rich Coconut Milk Matcha Latte and hot Hạt Dẻ Cười (pistachio) on a cold day. Staff are friendly, quick, and happy to help a group set up a small birthday. The space is airy and quiet. It gets very busy around Tết (Lunar New Year) because of the view, so avoid that week if you dislike crowds.

Prices (August 2026): black phin coffee 23,000 VND, phin coffee with milk 28,000 VND, bạc xỉu (white coffee, mostly milk) 38,000 VND, espresso 40,000 VND, cappuccino 45,000 VND.

The Wind is an easy choice with a group or small children, because there is a koi pond for kids to watch. It is spacious and airy, with good drinks at friendly prices and a menu from coffee to tea, plus snacks. It is down an alley at the back. Turn in; it’s worth it.

Diên Hồng ward: V7, KAP and Cuội

Diên Hồng has three very different places: a leafy garden, a bistro and a café with a band. Choose V7 on a rainy day, KAP for a nice dinner, and Cuội for music.

On a rainy day, V7 is a garden café with plenty of trees and wooden furniture. It is airy, with sun slanting through the leaves and friendly staff. The yard is paved with asphalt and gravel, the big trees and wood give it a slightly nostalgic feel, and the toilets are clean. Order the hot creamy milk coffee or the hot cappuccino for a wet day; office workers like it for a fairly priced cup. It has no view and drinks come in plastic cups, so go elsewhere if a view matters.

KAP is a bistro at 46 Hùng Vương for an evening with food and drink in a smart setting: the décor, the steak and the attentive staff stand out, and there are many photo corners. KAP leans toward meals, so for a quick coffee go elsewhere.

Café Cuội, at 62 Đống Đa, is a garden café with soft music: the band, the pretty, airy and quiet space are what people mention. The music schedule changes from week to week, so phone ahead to ask about tonight. If you want a view down over the city, pick Hani instead.

Choose by what you need

For a view, Ngày Bình Yên gives you rice fields and Hani the city at sunset. Both are on Tô Vĩnh Diện, so on a fine afternoon you can do both. For photos, Hani has the rooftop and photo corners, KAP has the décor, and Cuội has a pretty space.

For work, The Quao is the quietest and airiest in this guide, so you can stay all session. For traditional phin coffee, order the black phin at The Quao, and go to Cafe Thu Hà for paper phin filters or beans to take home.

If you have a few days, try one early morning at an old-school café and one afternoon at a café with open space, and you will see both sides of Pleiku coffee, from the old shops to the new places.

After coffee, food

If it is morning, eat first at a phở khô (dry noodle) place or pick from the other breakfast spots in Pleiku. More places to eat are in the Eat & drink section.
