Vegetarian restaurants in Pleiku

Five vegetarian and vegan restaurants in Pleiku: a quiet one for guests, a lunch street, a lakeside spot and a tiny place where the owner picks your dishes.

By Rechecked

Vegetarian eating in Pleiku is easiest on Tăng Bạt Hổ street, home to more than half of the city's well-known vegetarian restaurants, or at Coong Chay if you want somewhere quiet to host guests. Ánh Quang, in Biển Hồ commune, suits a meal near the lake. All five places here open somewhere between 6 am and 10 pm.

If a vegetarian friend is visiting, or your group wants a meat-free meal on the first day of the lunar month or at full moon, you need a restaurant you can trust in the city itself. Pleiku’s vegetarian places below are sorted by occasion: somewhere quiet for guests, Tăng Bạt Hổ street for a quick lunch, Biển Hồ Lake for a view of the water.

Vegetarian or vegan: check before you order

Vegetarian here means no meat but still eggs, milk, butter and honey; vegan means nothing from animals at all, a distinction explained in a Gia Lai newspaper feature on young people and vegetarian food. If you are cooking for a vegan guest, ask the restaurant before ordering. Ánh Quang has Vegan in its name, and it co-organised a vegan food festival in Pleiku from 24 to 26 April 2026.

Hosting guests: Coong Chay

Need a vegetarian meal for a few people, somewhere you can talk without the noise? Coong Chay is the one: the room is quiet and relaxed with plenty of seats, and the owner is friendly and speaks very good English. Order the mushroom salad with Thai sauce, sweet and sour and good with rice without getting heavy; there are also spring rolls, pad thai and Thai-sauce mushrooms. Small children tend to love the pad thai, and prices are fair. Do not come in a hurry: on busy days there is only one server and some tables wait an hour for food.

A quick, cheap lunch: Tăng Bạt Hổ street

Diên Hồng ward has a street that vegetarian eaters in Pleiku know well. Tăng Bạt Hổ is the “vegetarian street”, simple and affordable, and restaurants here make up more than half of the city’s known vegetarian places. Each menu runs to 20 to 50 dishes in a mix of regional styles: bún riêu (crab noodle soup), bún bò, phở, hotpot, rice, curry, bánh xèo, bánh ướt and bánh mì. Regulars like the street for the variety, fresh vegetables and low prices.

Thanh Thảo is the long-standing name; An Bình is a second place on the same street to compare.

Thanh Thảo is the veteran of the street: it has passed through two generations and has been running for nearly 30 years, and at lunchtime it is packed. The menu is the same range as its neighbours, at the same street prices. It opens early, so a vegetarian breakfast works too.

Open 6 am to 9 pm daily · 32 Tăng Bạt Hổ, Diên Hồng ward, the same address as in the Gia Lai tourism restaurant list · +84 905 697 243

An Bình has a long menu in Tăng Bạt Hổ style at the same affordable prices, with nicely plated food that is easy on the palate. Regulars call it their go-to place and say the food is tasty and clean.

Vegetarian kitchens light their stoves at 3 or 4 am, and as early as 1 or 2 am on full-moon days and the first of the lunar month. Vân Sơn on Phan Đình Giót has drawn more than 100 young diners on a full-moon day, two to three times a normal day, so on those days arrive early for a seat.

Near Biển Hồ Lake: Ánh Quang

After a pagoda visit or a walk by the lake you do not need to head back into town. Ánh Quang is airy and clean, with a view across to Biển Hồ, and the vegetarian hotpot is the dish to eat while looking at the green water. At Tết it serves a separate menu at acceptable prices, but with few dishes and a fried rice that disappoints. It also co-hosted the 2026 vegan food festival, with 27 stalls and more than 100 vegetarian dishes.

A small place where the owner suggests dishes: Vân Sơn

First time at a vegetarian restaurant and not sure what to order? Vân Sơn on Phan Đình Giót has no printed menu; the owner sits with you and suggests dishes, so the fourth line of the card above is all you need. Guests say the owner or staff recommend dishes, show them how to eat them and explain how they are made, and since everything is vegetarian, following their suggestions is safe. The wakame seaweed salad comes up most, then spring rolls, phở and herbal sweet soup.

Prices are not fixed on paper: two foreign guests paid about 100,000 VND for a starter, noodles and a bottle of beer (March 2026), and 150,000 VND for two dishes that one thought not cheap by local standards but tasty (July 2026), so ask the price of each dish as you order. It is best for a small group happy to eat slowly with guidance. It closes at 8 pm, so it will not do for a late dinner.
