If you or someone with you is unwell and you don’t know the city, you need three things: where to go, when to arrive and what to bring. Nearly always the answer is Gia Lai General Hospital. The others fit narrower needs, and the table below sorts them out.
If it looks dangerous (trouble breathing, someone unconscious, heavy bleeding), stop reading and call 115, or get the patient to the Emergency Department at once. This page is for choosing where to go for ordinary visits; diagnosis and treatment are the doctors’ job.

Military Hospital 211: when to choose it

You will hear locals say “211”. It is a first-class Army hospital that treats civilians as well as soldiers across the northern Central Highlands. It is at 410 Phạm Văn Đồng in Thống Nhất ward and open Monday to Friday, 7 am–5 pm, with only on-request paid visits on Saturday. You can book online, pick a time and wait less when you arrive.
If you already need one of those specialities, check 211 first. For an emergency or a general ward, Tôn Thất Tùng is still the better bet.
Someone needs emergency care: which number to call
For a critical patient call 115, the number that takes emergency calls. A single national emergency number is planned for later, so if 115 changes, expect a public notice.
If you can bring the patient yourself, the Emergency Department at Gia Lai General Hospital is open 24 hours a day, every day, including holidays and Tết, on 0269 382 4111. The hospital also runs an emergency transfer service round the clock, so for a patient who cannot travel, call first and sort out transport afterwards. Save the Emergency Department number and the hospital hotline, 0942 675 115, in your phone now, because nobody remembers numbers in a hurry. The hospital’s booking and information line is 02693.823088, answered 24/7.
What time to go, and why Saturday is easy to get wrong
Health-insurance (BHYT) outpatient visits run Monday to Friday, 7 am–11:30 am and 1:30–5 pm, at the BHYT reception desk. The regular clinic is open Monday to Friday, 7 am–4:30 pm; the on-request paid clinic runs Monday to Sunday, 7 am–5 pm; and the International Examination Department is open Monday to Saturday, 7:30 am–4:30 pm.
Saturday is where people go wrong, because the hospital’s pages don’t agree. On-request visits run on Saturday, and you register at the fee-payment counter. A Saturday clinic at 7–11 am and 1–5 pm is also described, with insurance still applying. The safe reading: assume insurance visits stop on Friday and don’t count on a Saturday slot until you have called.
Local tip: Before a Saturday visit, call 0942 675 115 or 02693.823088 and ask what is open.
Heading in for a check-up: what papers to bring and what steps you go through

To skip the queue at the door, register online on the hospital website with your name, date of birth, address and phone number (use a number with Zalo), then choose the date and time. If you have health insurance, have the 10-digit card number, its expiry date and your first-registration clinic ready for the form.
On the day, insured patients take a queue number at the BHYT desk and wait to be called; staff check the insurance card, ID and any transfer letter. Instead of the paper card you can show the card on the VssID app, or a chip ID card that already carries your insurance details. If the doctor orders blood tests, an ultrasound, X-ray, CT, MRI, ECG or endoscopy, get them done and go back to the same consulting room for the doctor’s conclusion. After that, go to the insurance payment desk, pay, collect your medicine and check it against the prescription before you leave.
Local tip: A forgotten paper card is no problem if your phone has VssID or you carry the chip ID card with insurance on it. Bring your transfer letter if you have one.
On cover: this is a second-class general hospital, so it is not on the list of first-registration clinics for insurance, apart from a few cases. Since 1 January 2021, an insured patient registered elsewhere in the province who stays in this hospital is covered as if on the right referral route without a transfer letter, while outpatient visits still need one. Insured patients from other provinces get the same cover for inpatient stays. Health check-ups and cosmetic services are not covered. You can buy insurance at the ward or commune office where you live. If you have just moved here, the guides on registering permanent residence in Pleiku and renting a home in Pleiku help you sort your residence papers first.
About how much hospital fees are: a few prices you will meet
These are common services from the hospital’s price list, set by Resolution 92/NQ-HĐND of 9 December 2025 and checked in October 2026. A single consultation and a bed per day are on the hospital’s own fee page.
| Service | Price |
|---|---|
| Standard ECG | 39,900 VND |
| Abdominal ultrasound | 58,600 VND |
| Chest X-ray, one digital film | 73,300 VND |
| Full blood count (laser counter) | 49,700 VND |
| Full blood count (impedance counter) | 43,500 VND |
| Emergency defibrillation | 532,400 VND |
Insured services are priced the same at all hospitals of the same class nationwide.
A long stay in hospital: parking, meals and giving birth
If you are looking after someone all day, the small things matter. Motorbike parking works with a magnetic card that reads the plate, and the fee is shown on an LED board, so you do not need to ask. There is a canteen on site, and the hospital takes meal orders for patients and family and delivers to the ward.
For childbirth there is a change to know about. The Gia Lai Maternity and Children’s Hospital was set up by moving the obstetrics department out of Gia Lai General Hospital, and it has operated since 1 July 2026 at Trà Đa residential group 6, Pleiku ward. Before an antenatal visit or a birth, call and ask which department is taking patients and where, instead of assuming Tôn Thất Tùng.
