During office hours, go to the Children’s Hospital: it is the province’s top-level paediatric hospital, split off from the paediatrics department of the General Hospital. It sees outpatients Monday to Friday, 7 to 11:30 am and 1:30 to 5 pm. Outside those hours its emergency department takes children around the clock.

Weekends are different: the Children’s Hospital publishes weekday hours only, while Gia Lai General Hospital also sees patients on Saturday, with eight consulting tables, five internal medicine, one surgery, one obstetrics and one traditional medicine, 7 to 11 am and 1 to 5 pm. None is a dedicated children’s table, so phone 02693.823088 before you set off.

Gia Lai Children’s Hospital, now the Obstetrics and Paediatrics Hospital

The Obstetrics and Paediatrics Hospital opened on 1 July 2026, when the obstetrics department of Gia Lai General Hospital moved into the Children’s Hospital; a ceremony announcing the decision followed later in July. The address reads Tổ dân phố 15, Pleiku ward, though the founding paperwork lists residential group 6, Trà Đa. Same ward either way, and 02693 797904 will give you directions. Open in Maps.

• What it treats: clinics for internal medicine 1 and 2, surgery, ear-nose-throat and eyes. The outpatient department examines children up to 15 years old; the general internal medicine department treats internal and infectious illness from 1 month to 16 years, with traditional medicine such as acupuncture, massage and acupressure.
• How it works: the outpatient department has an automatic ticket and number-calling system. Patients with health insurance get printed lab slips and prescriptions, and a desk tracks each prescription from the consultation to collecting the medicine.

This is the one for a paediatric specialist: it takes seriously ill newborns, premature babies, severe dengue and severe hand-foot-mouth disease. For a weekend appointment, use the options below.

Departments to know if your child is admitted

You only hear about these when a child has to stay, so save the numbers now. The neonatal department is on 02693797910, and it is the only hospital in the province with a dedicated neonatal department. The intensive care and poisoning department treats every seriously ill child, including poisoning cases that need breathing or circulation support, on 02693797916. The general surgery department operates on the digestive, urinary, liver-bile and anorectal systems of children from the whole province and some neighbouring areas such as Kon Tum.

Paediatrics at Gia Lai General Hospital

When the Children’s Hospital is closed in the evening or on Saturday, Gia Lai General Hospital is your second option, because its emergency department works around the clock all week, holidays and Tết included.

• What it treats: the hospital’s online booking by specialty includes a paediatrics department.
• Where: 132 Tôn Thất Tùng, Phù Đổng ward (now part of Pleiku ward).
• Call: hotline 02693.823088, answered online 24/7.
• Hours: regular outpatient Monday to Friday, 7 am to 4:30 pm; the service clinic Monday to Sunday, 7 am to 5 pm.

It is the practical choice near the centre or at a weekend, but not for a children’s specialist on Saturday, since those tables are internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics and traditional medicine.

Evenings and weekends: a private general clinic

That leaves early evening and Sunday, where a private general clinic helps, especially for your child’s vaccinations.

Sysmed Phu Dong General Clinic

• What it offers: a vaccination centre with full vaccine packages for children and adults, for women preparing for pregnancy, and on-demand shots. You can book consultations and vaccinations and look up your vaccination history on the clinic’s website.

Good when everyone in the family works all week and vaccinations have to fit an evening or weekend. For emergency care or admission, go straight to the Children’s Hospital emergency department, open to children around the clock.

If you work in Vietnam: the paper you can ask for

If you are employed in Vietnam, there is a small right that is easy to miss: a certificate for social insurance sick leave when your child is ill. A parent taking a child under 7 to the doctor can ask for it on form GCN-PL7 right at the specialist clinic, one certificate per visit. You give accurate details of your employer and your own administrative information. Health insurance does not cover treatment of squint, short-sightedness and refractive errors, except for children under 6.

Tip: Ask for the paper at the clinic during the visit, not afterwards, because it is issued at that specialist clinic.
